Small On-page SEO Experiment
Hi!
Recently I had to mess with a lot of distractions offline so I need to work harder to get more sites up and running.
My conversion rates are lower than in Feb, so I won’t expect as much incomes as in Feb (( I also noticed that “thanks” to EVO II software my rankings for most profitable keywords lowered.
Here’s the experiment I wanted to make now – I’ve found that my sub-page is now #8 in google for a keyword. It was #5 and I want to get it back to higher positions with a simple On-page trick.
I’ve analysed the backlinks and on-page factors of my competition and found that my keyword in title is mentioned NOT in the beginning (!) Now my title starts from this keyword, like “blahblah – Keyword blah” -> “Keyword blah – blah blah” .
My goal is to see if keyword position in title affects rankings.
I’ve already pinged the site and now waiting for google to reindex this change, and I’ll check if my position changed
Stay tuned, as this little overlooked thing may definitely mean a lot in fighting for top spots.
March 14 Update – The site got to positions 29 and 33 for variations of my keword. I think this is not because of title change, but other factors like using EVO II which I guess may hurt rankings.
March 15 Update – The page is ranking a bit higher than March 14. Positions 23 and 29 now. I’m not adding new backlinks to this page, in order to see if title change affect rankings. Unf, the backlinking that I do almost daily, had negative efect and make the experiment dirty. Nevertheless, I check if the site is back to top and which position in top 10.
March 17 Update – My rankings are not better than previous results – positions 22 and 26 today. However, this is not due to this on-page change. I’ve took a look at the current rankings today and found that rankings have changed COMPLETELY in the last 2 days. The sites that were in top 5 are now on page 2-4 in google. Now in top 3 positions I see sites that weren’t even in top 10 previously.
Due to this freaking “dance” I still haven’t even made 1000$ in income this month, as my site is down across all the keywords that made me good money in February. google really pisses me off more and more!!! This is the most unreliable traffic source nowadays, both paid and as I see now “free”.
That means you spend days and days, months of hard work building backlinks etc, and then something changes in this ugly system and your hard work is down the drain in one day.
I’m really tired to see how my site jumps to pos. 40 and then jumps back to position 489… and sticks to it no matter how many good or related or other backlinks I add… In 2007 I never seen such “dances”, ever. I kept adding backlinks to my sites, and I’ve seen some steady, small but consistent growth in rankings, and I knew it works.
Now sometimes I don’t the hell know what works with this f**ing google! I’ve checked one of my empty blogs today and found it on position 7 for my main keyword. No backlinks, just a ping 3 weeks ago. Sure, I can take advantage of this, but I wanted more predictable results, and I never thought that site may drop nowhere while the backlinks keep growing!
March 19 Update -the quick check of my recent positions shows nothing and I’m now on positions 21 and 29. However, the clickthrough to the product was only 5 clicks yesterday, so I cannot expect making at least 1 conversion with such traffic volume.
I keep working on building backlikns via blog commenting, adding links from profile pages and spreading articles over the net.

I’ve used that same trick for a while, only realizing after reading this post I was doing it. I also try to stick with putting the kw’s in my content in the first/last paragraph, as well as any h1/h2/h3 headings on page.
Seems to have worked so far. Not saying I’m smarter than you – it was more of a subconscious thing, seeing it so often.
Hope it works out for you! Nice blog. I found you off another blog – under a different username.

Hi Jack!
I agree, good on-page like you described helps to dominate some keywords even with empty blogs. I did this trick and it worked several times – keyword in title, desc, h1, h2, beginning of the paragraph and that’s it. In a week or 2 my empty blog is in top 10 already..
Now position of page in this experiment is down to 30+, I’ll see how that goes…and update this experiment.

Hey Anton are you doing PPC ads with affinity? How do you like them? Do they offer a lot of traffic / how competitve are the click costs?

Hi Anon!
What did you mean by PPC ads with affinity? Is that PPV traffic? To be frank, I’m currently not doing any PPC since I try to reinvest all the money back into SEO to create some predictabe income flow.
I did PPC with adwords in 2009, but Clickbank was not the best thing to play with this traffic. CPA offers showed much more interest.
I’ve also played a bit with PPV traffic (DirectCPV) and made a lead of ringtone offer. This is cost per view traffic and each view costs 0.001 to 0.01$ (and more in competitive niches like insurance). So no matter how many clicks you get, you still pay for each view of your popup ad.
The more domains/keywords you bid on, the more traffic you get. Hundreds of visitors per day is easy, thousands as well. I tested 2 campaigns – 1 auto insurance – very competitive. 1 was IQ quiz and this was 38$ spent 9$ made. Could have potential. So with CPA I think PPV traffic is great one!!!

Grand –
Re: G dance, you can’t worry about it. Do what you know works, stick with it, and if your site doesn’t return in G, then check your ranking in Y and B, for instance.
I’d also consider “articleaware” as they have a great package, less than $50, to submit your site to about 400 directories – though G gets the singular lion’s share, I find that these smaller directories can’t be counted out. It is said they comprise about 80% of the traffic, but only when taken as a whole.
Don’t give up on G – if your site doesn’t seem to return, you may want to go to their webmaster tools and request they re-consider your site(s), as I’m doing on one of my sites currently. It costs nothing – this particular site of mine was what got me banned from Digg, which sucks, but there’s always a work-around.
In any event, look into it, and don’t hold your breath. The key to success is focus, drive and repeating what you know works.
Be aware that a UAW run and the like may get you G-slapped, it happened to one of my sites that was crawling up from page 8…then 4…at which point I ran UAW.
G-slapped! I wasn’t even showing up as indexed…I was about ready to sell it (it was appraised at $900), when all of a sudden I noticed it was getting clicks.
I checked – and I was on page ONE with 300+ backlinks! Holy cow!
So, you may be noticing that your site is slapped, only to return stronger than before – but if you need to work around G, then do it. You can still make $$.

Just curious about your traffic issue – do you think you’d try out that traffic ultimatum product? just curious if you think that may help, i haven’t tried it but keep getting the invite from IM’r gurus to do it.
I’ve been reading your posts here and think that you need to stick with it, like the above commenter, keep doing what you know works and you’ll see some improvment.

so – have you tried the “deep link engine” wp plugin? not sure if you’re using wp or not. just installed it, will let you know if it does it’s thing. in any event, what are your thoughts on automated programs, such as “reviewazon” or “amaniche,” or wp robot, etc?
have you any experience with them?

Hi Rick!
I’ve had a chance to look into this product and I can say it’s not bad for those who’s just starting out, but for me this is all known already. Especially free traffic methods, article writing, using SENuke for web 2.0 stuff, bookmarking content with Bookmarking Demon, recycling articles to submit to other directories, making press releases and forum posting and blog commenting etc.
Paid traffic – George covers adwords (it’s dead for me since my adwords acc banned in December) and basics of Facebook and PPV traffic. Well, youtube buying is already covered by George in his prelaunch videos, no need to buy the course to hear the same thing.
Outsourcing – George shows how a typical Odesk project would look like. I’ve done this numerous times with Odesk )) there’s no secret here really.
It’s a good comprehensive course for beginners, but those who’s in this business for some time already will not find much new info here. The course price is 197$ + 2 upsells. I think good old SENuke will be MUCH better investment since it helps to take sites to the top
Yes I agree we just need to keep doing what works. In my case, what worked is now down. I need to lift my positions in google to recoup my traffic and sales back. The more backlinks I build, the lower my positions become. I think this is “thanks” to EVO II soft that I used to build backlinks.
